Black Piano, Brown Bench

April 8, 2018

It wasn't perfect.  It didn't even match.  How could I start piano lessons in my home when they didn't match?

Yep, it was a black piano and a brown bench.  And it bothered me.

I'm not sure why, but the fact that I had a black new-to-me piano (that I refurbished myself) and a brown leather bench really, really bothered me.  In my mind, it didn't look professional.  It didn't look sophisticated.  It didn't look right.

So, naturally, I couldn't start piano lessons.

Now, don't judge.  Think about something you've been wanting to do in your business, whether it is opening up your home for student workshops, or writing a blog, or publishing your own curriculum.

Now, take that thing you've been wanting to do and fill in the blanks:

I will ___________________________  when ______________________________.

Ok, now back to mine.  Could I really not start piano lessons until my bench and my piano matched?  Goodness, no, that was ridiculous.

And now look back at yours.  Can you really not do your what until you've had your when?

Goodness, no -- just go for it.  Stop stalling, stop waiting for everything to magically fall in to place.

It doesn't have to be perfect.  It doesn't have to be just right.  Just go for it my friend.

And, in case you're wondering, yep -- I still have that brown bench tucked right under my black piano.

I said those very words way back when because I'd just refurbished a baby grand piano to a (kind of) satin black finish.  And, I had a brown piano bench from my other piano.

And
